Workshop on AI and LLMs for Language Preservation and Advancement (ALLPA)

Scope

Languages are integral to human identity, cultural heritage, and the exchange of knowledge. However, the world is witnessing a dramatic decline in linguistic diversity, with many languages at risk of extinction due to globalization, socio-economic changes, and cultural homogenization. This loss not only diminishes cultural richness but also impacts sustainable development, including social equity, environmental stewardship, and economic opportunities.

This workshop invites researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Large Language Models (LLMs) can play a transformative role in preserving endangered languages and advancing linguistic diversity. The focus is on leveraging AI and LLM technologies to create innovative solutions that promote language sustainability while addressing the broader dimensions of the Triple Bottom Line (TBL)—social, environmental, and economic sustainability.

We welcome original research, case studies, and practical applications on (but not limited to) the following topics:

  • Preservation and Revitalization: AI-powered tools for language documentation, digital archiving, and revitalization of endangered languages.
